The Sunday Recap - Down the Rabbit Hole 34

June 23, 2019

BTC has decided to pump and so far seems inclined to continue to do so - no doubt re-igniting interest around the globe.

In other news a little known company - Facebook officially announced their small project 'Libra.' OK OK  - a more honest by-line would be something along these lines - Global corporate titan announces phase two of worldwide financial and social domination with the support of like-minded corporate backers!

Personally, I see this as a win-win for Bitcoin. Libra's success will greatly expand BTC's profile as many hundreds of millions of folks suddenly find themselves contemplating this 'crypto thing'. Were Libra to fail - the superiority of a truly permissionless decentralized system would be highlighted.

As for the Alts - beware many of them may find themselves entirely irrelevant if Libra does indeed launch. In any case, it looks likely that Libra may end up doing much of the heavy lifting in terms of bringing a degree of regulatory clarity to the cryptosphere.

 Picks of the Week

The short video recounting the primary factors leading to the 2008 financial collapse is time spent. Also Julian Hosp's breakdown of the Libra whitepaper is very informative and a great starting point for assessing the project.

The aim is a useful weekly aggregator of ideas rather than news. Though I try to keep the sources current – I’ll reference these articles and podcasts etc. as I encounter them – they may have been published just a couple of days ago or in some cases quite a bit earlier.
